No one tells you
That when you move away
And start again
That you get to start again.
It sounds obvious, but no one mentions it.
In a new land, you can be someone new.
No one expects
No one knows.
But if you don’t know,
You’ll be the same.
You’ll make the same mistakes
And you’ll fail to grow.
A dead seed stuck in the same patterns
With the same people.
Oh, but you can change.
Of course you can!
You can be new.
New!
Who knew?
Not you.
So it takes move after move to realise
That when you move
You choose.
Actions and words.
Words and people.
You choose who to be
Who they see
Who.
And before long,
(Before love),
You’re someone new
Covering something old
Because you’ll always be
That old you.
Even when encased in something new.
So your new skin grows cracks
And the old beauty within shines through.
And the mistakes, they shine too.
Until you leave your new land
And go back home.
And you realise
Home is no longer there,
But the place from which you run.
And nobody tells you.
